Family Donates to a Worthy Cause

We had an outbreak of the wallet wars last weekend during a large family gathering we hosted at Gantz Family Vineyards as appreciative family members tried to reimburse us for our costs. We were excited to be able to host 60-plus kin and were not interested in accepting money for the privilege.

But a politic cousin explained that people wanted to help out and, perhaps, we could accept their heartfelt contributions and donate it to a favorite cause. Now that struck a chord with us.

We suggested that people make a donation toward Wilson Winery’s Children of Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund. Administered by the Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County, the fund provides scholarships from $700 to $2,000 to the children of Sonoma County vineyard workers. The scholarships are open to high school seniors continuing their education and students who are already in college, trade or technical school. With a bevy of teachers in my family, we are strong advocates of education. Clay and I are amazed by the skills and work ethic of the vineyard workers, and we are glad to have found this opportunity to give back.

Donations to the scholarship fund can be sent to: Children of Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund (Federal ID #75-3187688), c/o Sonoma County Farm Bureau Foundation, 970 Piner Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95403
